Diplo – born Thomas Wesley Pentz, who knew – is one of the world’s biggest artists.
During his decorated career he’s worked with some huge names, including Britney Spears, Madonna, and Beyoncé. But for all the celeb friends Diplo has, it seems none hold the same special place in his heart as the Jonas Brothers.
How do I know this? Because you don’t live-stream the Vegas wedding, attend the French, and hack the Instagram account of people you don’t care for.
Of course, I’m referring to the wedding of Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas which Diplo notoriously ‘ruined’ earlier this year. The Instagram incident I mentioned is recent – still ongoing, in fact.
Diplo has hacked the Jonas Brothers Instagram account and it’s… a hot mess.
Joe Jonas has called out Diplo directly on his own Instagram story, but Tommy-boy couldn’t care less – he clearly thinks the whole thing is hilarious.
I can appreciate the humour in the incident – we’ve all been on the receiving end of a cheeky hack. Remember the days when you would leave your phone unattended for one second and come back to an embarrassing Facebook status about how you want to marry your dog and live a life as a recluse eating only canned tuna?
Diplo hacking the JoBro’s is, for the most part, normal – celebs, they’re just like us. They sleep like us, and eat breakfast like us, and have annoying friends who hack their social accounts like us.
However (and this is a big however), it’s also pretty immature. School mates hacking your Insta account is one thing, but a 40-year-old seasoned artist with probably a million other more important things to be doing is another.
I’ve decided three things from this incident:
Diplo has too much time on his hands. Diplo needs to grow up. And, Diplo needs a hobby.
Diplo, my man, take up stamp collecting or set up your own Instagram meme account or something, but don’t ruin other people’s reputation for the sake of your own amusement.
Or do, but at least have the respect to stop one or two stupid posts in. At present, Diplo has posted five feed posts and one Instagram story on the Jonas Brothers’ account. That’s a lot of self-promotion, probably a lot of unfollows, and a lot of time for Joe, Nick, and Kevin to stop finding it funny.
Let go before it’s too late, Dude. Not everyone can say they’re mates with the Jonas Brothers.
