Yeah, You Can Get In Trouble For Putting Your Xmas Decorations Up Too Early

IT'S NOVEMBER.

PSA: there are 41 days until Christmas. That’s five weeks. That’s over ONE month. Knowing this, it’s understandable that a family in Texas were told it’s too soon to put their Xmas decorations up.

According to the New York Post, the family were ordered to take down their festive decorations after their homeowner’s association said it was too early to be celebrating the silly season.

“I was like, ‘Wow, that’s a first,’” the homeowner, Nick Simonis, told News 4 San Antonio. “I was angry, because there’s a reason why we’re doing it.”

Simonis said his wife, Claudia, is eight months pregnant so “the earlier we can put out the decorations, the better.”

“Because probably in two more weeks, I’m not going to be able to build this,” she said. There’s no doubt that trying to suspend a giant snowman up on your roof nine months into your pregnancy would be a nightmare, but surely they could call a mate to come over and help?

Either way, the Simonis family are p*ssed, and they’re not budging on their very visible holiday cheer. “We’re not going to do it,” Nick said. “It’s the Christmas spirit. We’re not going to be forced by the HOA to take it down.”

The Simonis’s aren’t the only ones keen for an early Christmas kick-off. This July, UK retailer Selfridges copped criticism for launching its Christmas shop a whopping 149 DAYS before December 25th.

Sure, people celebrate Xmas in July, but is anyone shopping that far ahead for the real deal? One disgruntled Twitter user weighed in, writing, “#Selfridges Christmas stock already in. You might as well never take it down. That’s ridiculous tho, come on.”

No one likes a Grinch, and according to scientists, people who begin Christmas celebrations early are happier – but how early is too early?

If you’re keeping your neighbours up with flashing red and green fairy lights and a mechanical santa yelling “Ho! Ho! Ho!” all through the night, it might be time to reschedule the decorating sesh to a later date. Just a thought.
