Keira Knightley Revealing She Wore That Dorky Hat In Love Actually To Cover A Massive Pimple Makes That Scene Even Better

She was 17 when filming Love Actually so this was bound to happen.

As a devout Love Actually fan, I appreciate any and all insider information that reveals how the tiniest details of the world’s best Christmas movie came to be.

And that’s especially true if it is at all in relation to Love Actually‘s iconic wedding video scene. The scene of, “Banoffee pie?” The scene of, “I look quite pretty.” The scene of, “They’re all of me”.

It’s also the scene of Keira Knightley rocking an essentially dorky hat, that she just so happens to pull off and somehow does not look like a train conductor.

Well according to Keira Knightley herself, her Love Actually hat was not just a quirky choice from the wardrobe department – it was pure necessity. Literally she had a massive pimple that no makeup could cover and they were forced to cover her head in the big-ass hat. Amazing.

“Do you know why the hat was there? I had a massive spot in the middle of my forehead,” she said in an interview with BBC One.

“This is the problem with being 17 and being in films. It was humungous. We had to find a hat to cover it. There was no lighting, there was no makeup that was going to cover it.”

“It’s funny how you just remember extreme embarrassment. I remember coming in the morning, being like, ‘Oh wow, I’ve got another head on my head. What are we going to do?’ There’s nothing we can do about this. But there is, because you can always put a hat over it!”

Keira Knightley has never been more relatable (except for the whole 17-years-old and a movie star thing), and my love for this Love Actually scene has never been greater. Whether it’s break outs or bad hair, hats are the real MVP’s.
