Chace Crawford Could Have Been Captain America But Gossip Girl Ruined Everything For Him

"They had a suit made with my name on it."

Before I get started, Chris Evans is the absolute perfect Steve Rogers and Captain America. I mean, look at him:

It’s been eight years since the first Captain America movie came out and it turns out all those years ago Chace Crawford was pretty close to nabbing the role of the first Avenger.

And let’s be honest, he’s pretty beautiful too:

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Chace was asked by a fan if it was true that he’d auditioned for the role of Captain America and whether he was “somewhat salty” that he missed out on the job.

The star responded, “Now that you bring it up, maybe I am! No, I did have a screen test for that back in the day but they actually didn’t let me do it because they realized I was on a show in New York for nine months of the year [referring to Gossip Girl].”

No doubt it was pretty frustrating to find out he wasn’t able to screen test because of his job at the time – especially because the show came to an end a year after the first The First Avenger was released.

He went on to say, “A buddy of mine told me he went in there and they had a suit made with my name on it, and a whole thing. After nine films you’re thinking ‘Oh man, I would’ve loved a shot at that.'”

Could that buddy have been fellow Gossip Girl star Sebastian Stan who went on to play Bucky Barnes in the film?

But seriously, knowing that they had a suit ready for him and he couldn’t even wear it has got to hurt!

Some of the other actors who were up for the role of Captain America include John Krasinski, Scott Porter, Mike Vogel and Garret Hedlund.

Chace has finally got the chance to play a superhero now in the new Amazon show The Boys – it’s no Captain America, but it’s not bad!
