A Man Has Died After Being Swooped By A Magpie Proving The End Of Humanity Is Nigh

They’re getting smarter.

One of my favourite television shows is a show called Zoo. It flew a bit under the radar and only ran for two years from 2015-2017, but it was great.

I say great but I really mean mildly terrifying. The premise of the show is that animals all around the world – from lions to birds – develop independent thought. As they evolve and grow increasingly intelligent, they begin killing humans in planned attacks to regain dominance.

Like I said, terrifying. But I could still sleep soundly at night because I knew it was just a show – sure, maybe one day animals will evolve to the point of killing us all off but not any day soon.

Denial is bliss etc etc.

Or so I thought, until I heard about this:

Yep, a magpie attacked a New South Wales man and caused him to die.

I wish! Source: Giphy

The 76-year-old man was reportedly riding his bike on an off-road path in Woonona, some 11km north of Wollongong, when he was swooped by the bird. Startled, he lost control of his bike and collided with a post, sustaining serious injuries.

The man was airlifted to St George Hospital in Sydney and sadly died later in the evening.

Because magpies aren’t terrifying enough, it seems they’ve now started to plot against us. Next, they’ll be attacking in packs and soon thereafter not even driving will be safe.

Am I paranoid? Yes.

Am I going to start walking everywhere and wear a bike helmet and shoulder pads at all times? You betcha.

Stay safe out there, kids. And don’t forget to look up.
