Simone Biles Is The First Gymnast To Land A Double-Double Dismount And You Need To See It To Believe It

It's jaw-dropping.

I’m going to be honest, I don’t know much about gymnastics, but I do know that Simone Biles is amazing at what she does.

The 22-year-old is already the most decorated female gymnast of all time and has won five medals for the US at the Olympics, but now she’s made history after being the first gymnast to land a double-double dismount – something that’s never been attempted before in a competition.

Biles performed the dismount at the 2019 US Gymnastics Championships and it’s actually jaw-dropping that anyone can do something like this:

Once again in slow motion:

Biles was also the first person to attempt a triple-double (two flips and three twists in the air) during the floor exercise, however, she didn’t quite stick the landing and fell forward.

Afterwards, she said she was “pissed off” according to Team USA. She added, “I just want to throw it in the trash and start over.”

It was just a couple of hours later that she landed the double-double dismount, which she was “really happy with”.

“I’m really happy with the beam dismount and how it’s come along, because if you had asked me after [U.S. Classic] if I was going to compete it, I would’ve said no.”

“I feel like in those short two weeks we did a lot of work on a couple of the events, so I’m pretty excited with how it turned out.”

Once Biles completes the move in an international meet it will be named after her – how awesome is that?!

Simone took a jab at her critics before competing by practicing in a leotard with a literal goat on it (as in ‘greatest of all time’). Her boyfriend also wore a similar T-shirt to watch her compete.

Simone recently spoke to USA Today about the idea of not only hearing that you’re the best, but actually knowing it.

“You’ll go your whole entire career and everybody will tell you you’re great. But the minute you say you’re good, [people are] like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so cocky! Cancel her,’ or this or that.”

“There should be times where we can celebrate whenever we do a good routine. Or if you’ve been on a winning streak for a year. Or so forth. I think it’s something you should have pride in. Not be cocky about it, but have pride in it.”

Amen!
