It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

Literally No One Asked For This Eurovision Film Starring Will Ferrell And Pierce Brosnan

Yes, this is real.

What do you get when you combine Eurovision, Will Ferrell and Pierce Brosnan? A new Netflix film, apparently.

Twitter users found themselves divided last night after Netflix UK and Ireland announced a movie about Eurovision was on the way. The streaming services revealed that the film will star Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams as “aspiring Icelandic musicians,” as well as Pierce Brosnan as Will’s father and “the most handsome man in Iceland.”

While some fans were keen on seeing their favourite song contest on the silver screen, a lot of people were not into the idea at all.

In the thread, Twitter users questioned why the main characters weren’t being played by Icelandic actors (assuming the film is set there) and others couldn’t believe Netflix would cancel much-loved shows like The OA and replace them with something like this.

Another user pointed out what we’re all wondering: “So like Blades of Glory but shit.”

The concept does sound like it could be similar to the 2007 comedy Blades of Glory starring Will Ferrell as over-the-top Olympic ice skater, Chazz Michael Michaels. I imagine that Netflix’s new Eurovision film will feature much of the same ‘glitz and glamour’ of Blades of Glory, but with Rachel McAdams instead of Amy Poehler.

Perhaps Netflix’s Eurovision film will surprise fans and be our new favourite comedy. We’ll just have to wait and see.
