Remember when Taika Waititi wasn’t the most beloved and best-dressed director in the MCU pantheon, but just a Kiwi weirdo best known for being mates with the Flight Of The Conchords guys and directing a mockumentary about vampires in a sharehouse?
He’s going back to his roots this year with a TV series based on that exact movie, the hysterical and oddly touching What We Do In The Shadows. Waititi’s co-created the show with Conchords’ Jemaine Clement, and it stars Matt Berry from The Mighty Boosh and The IT Crowd.
And now that the already-released teasers have been followed up by a proper trailer, it looks like anyone who loved the movie is going to be very on board.

It’s set in the US, not Wellington, but the conceit is the same: immortal dorks, virgin jokes, lots of blood, relatable housemate drama.
It also introduces Colin, who is an Energy Vampire. He either bores people to unconsciousness (or death? It’s not quite clear) or enrage them so much they give off fury-energy in the vamp’s direction.
“We’re making being boring into a supernatural power,” Clement told a panel at TV critic conference TCA yesterday.
Hot tip: if you can’t identify the Energy Vampire in your office, it might be you.
And yes: there actually will be swearwolves.
"They're not New Zealand werewolves. They're American werewolves, so they swear a bit more. Very East Coast werewolves. New York werewolves." Jemaine Clement, both with and without context. #tca19

The show will air on FX in the US from March 27, and doesn’t have an Australian channel or streaming service announced yet. Fingers crossed. Or not.
