Bless The Internet For Celebrating This Confident Woman's Viral Selfie Game

Louder for the people in the back.

Let’s be honest – watching someone take a selfie in public is usually cringeworthy at the best of times. But not for this New York woman whose viral selfie game has become the Internet’s new source of confidence.

Jess George was recently filmed snapping a series of selfies while riding the subway and the footage has since gone viral. In the video, George is clearly feeling herself and nailing those angles despite the people sitting on the train around her.

The viral selfie video, which was posted to Twitter by @benyahr, now has over 30K retweets, 220K likes and has attracted a lot of love. While some trolls took the opportunity to tease her for being “narcissistic,” most were busy celebrating her undeniable confidence.

One user wrote, “To have the confidence to do this in front of others is powerful,” while another tweeted, “honestly she is my new queen, I worship her and ONLY her!!”

In an interview with Huffington Post, George said, “I saw an empty subway car and was alone, so the self-timer had to come out! At the next stop, people got on the train but I decided to continue. It was very spontaneous.”

The empowered selfie queen has since taken to Twitter to respond to the support, writing, “I am overwhelmed by the kind words expressed by everyone and I just want to say THANK YOU to all!!”

“Let’s spread this positivity and continue to uplift one another,” she tweeted before thanking Twitter user @benyahr for capturing the original viral selfie video.

Speaking to Huffington Post, Yahr said he “thought it was pretty incredible that someone would be so shameless and also awesome that she was feelin’ herself so hard.”

Despite a handful of negative comments on the viral selfie video, it’s so refreshing to see a woman’s self-confidence celebrated and appreciated rather than criticised and picked apart like we so often see on social media.

Perhaps it’s a good opportunity to do as Jess George suggests and continue to spread positivity instead of hate.
