'Gelato Doesn't Count In Rome', And Other Top Travel Tips For Europe

Nova FM’s Smallzy spills the tea on his travels.

Working night’s hosting Smallzy’s Surgery on Nova means I work crazy hours. So when I get time off, you’ll see me head off overseas, usually straight for Europe.

I’ve done this a few times so here are some of my top tips.

Europe’s Finest

Italy is one of my all-time favourite destinations. Literally anywhere in Italy. Just give me all the pasta.

I also love London. What’s not to love about London?

And while I’m not a romantic guy, I do like Paris.

Top Trip

My most recent trip to Europe was Euro summer – so, last Aussie winter.

I spent a few weeks off the coast of Sicily in a place called the Aeolian Islands. You forget what day it is – you have hardly any WiFi and you really get a chance to disconnect. I’ve never been more relaxed in my life.

Hit or Miss

People ask “what spot is totally overrated that I can just skip?” Look, I’m not really into telling people not to see what they want to see. I say ‘you do you’.

Mind you, The Mona Lisa – SKIP. It’s tiny. There are way too many people around it and it’s so deep into the Louvre.

I would also suggest people always set their own path when travelling. If you can stay with friends you can get a totally different view of a city. But I’ve found the greatest trips I’ve had are where you head in a direction and just go exploring.

Packing Pointer

Whenever you think you have finished packing your bags take 40% out of it. You won’t wear that just-in-case-we-go-somewhere-nice leather jacket. Especially if it’s the middle of summer.

Next Move

I’ve always wanted to drive the autobahns of Germany and Switzerland, so next up I think it’ll be a bit of exploring through random German towns where I don’t speak any of the language.

Final Thought

I’ll leave you with this: my brother met his wife on a Topdeck in Europe. So get out there and travel. Who knows what will happen or who you might meet.
