Donald Trump, American president and human bin fire, has spent a lot of his time in the hot seat winding back rights for LGBTIQ+ Americans. I’m guessing he assumes he’s totally forgiven though, because he’s just put out a line of pride themed MAGA shirts.
Since being elected, the Trump administration has made life harder for LGBTIQ+ people to get healthcare, education, and military roles. It looks like there might be legislation letting people fire employees for being gay or trans coming very very soon. It’s pretty clear that if you’re not straight and cis, then the Government is not a fan.
What they are a fan of though, is people’s money.
Behold: the official Make America Great Again Pride Tee. According to the website, you can “show your support for the LGBT community and the 45th President with this exclusive Make America Great Again Pride T-Shirt.”
It’s going for $25 US dollars, or about $36 Australian. They seem very proud of it even though it looks like the sort of graphic design that my 8 year old self would have done while working on a PowerPoint about what I did during the school holidays. It’s not quite rainbow WordArt, but it’s damn close.
It’s the second time this year that LGBTIQ+ Trump mech has hit the market. They released another shirt for Pride month and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots back in June, and it went down with people like a lead balloon. I must admit the graphic design was only slightly better, but that’s all it had going for it.
After they were yelled at the first time I’m not sure why they’ve given it another crack, but that’s probably the least perplexing thing about this Government. Two MAGA themed Pride shirts in a year? Why not. It’s not like this year has been full of bad products anyway.
We all know how shameless Donald Trump and his cronies are, but this is a pretty bold move. I would absolutely love to see the amount of sales they make on this, cause I’m not guessing it will be many.
