Troye Sivan Had The Ultimate Clapback To A Reporter Asking Whether He's A Top Or Bottom

"Wildly invasive, strange and inappropriate."

PSA: it’s really weird to straight-up ask a stranger about their sex life. Just take Troye Sivan, who was recently asked whether he’s a “top or a bottom” during an interview.

The South African-Australian singer took to Twitter to describe the strange encounter, telling his 9.2M followers, “I thought about asking the interviewer about his absolute fave sex position after that last question, but then I remembered how wildly invasive, strange and inappropriate that would be. Didn’t stop him though!”

Right at the end of his Q&A, reporter Matt Fistonich asked Sivan “top or bottom?” to which the singer responded, “Ooo…definitely passing!”

When a fan apologised to Sivan “from the entirety of New Zealand minus this person,” he was quick to reassure them, “Lol nooooo don’t NZ is my fave and I can’t wait to get there.”

You’ve got to admit – it’s a super inappropriate question to ask someone you’ve never met, whether they’re famous or not. However, it’s not the first time Sivan has dealt with questions regarding his sex life.

Last year, Sivan dropped his banger ‘Bloom’ and after careful investigation of the lyrics, fans were certain the song was a blatant ode to bottoming. The singer only added to the speculation when he tweeted about ‘Bloom’ using the hashtag #BopsBoutBottoming.

During an interview with Dazed, Sivan was asked about the song and subsequent tweet and said (winking) “it’s 100 percent about flowers! That’s all it is.”

Journo John Brammer investigated the meaning behind ‘Bloom’ for LGBTQ publication Them, and made the very good point: “let’s pause to note that we have something here we practically never get in pop music: confirmation that a man is singing about another man in romantic context. That in itself is pretty radical!”

Whether ‘Bloom’ is, in fact, about bottoming or bloomin’ flowers, it doesn’t really matter. What matters is Troye Sivan is still making music we all love, and asking him inappropriate questions about his private life is never going to go down well.
