No, The Queen's Not Dead But These Memes About It Are Alive And Well

False alarm, Baby Yoda.

God doesn’t need to save the Queen because she’s alive and well – and so are the many memes about her rumoured death.

Yesterday, Twitter was set alight with rumours that the Queen had passed away – and in true 2019 fashion, it was all because of a WhatsApp conversation.

Twitter user @tezilyas shared a screenshot of the WhatsApp group chat which read: “Queens passed away this morning, heart attack, being announced at 930 Am tomorrow,” apparently “from a guards reg WhatsApp group.”

@texilyas’ caption on the Tweet was what we were all thinking: “If it’s true that the Queen is dead and it was leaked from a WhatsApp group with an erect pens as it’s profile pic…then I humbly request the programmers of this simulation to wake me the f*ck up please.”

Turns out the whole thing was a huge stitch up and the rumours were quickly squashed by Charlie Proctor, the editor-in-chief of the blog Royal Central. “I see we have reached that time of year where I have to dispel rumours of HM’s passing,” he tweeted. “The Queen is not dead.”

By the time the news had spread that the Queen was not, in fact, dead, it was too late and the meme lords of the Internet had already worked their magic.

Here are some of the most hilarious memes and tweets to come out of the Queen’s near-death:

Equally-as-interesting as the memes is what would happen if the Queen was to die. According to The Guardian, an organising committee meets three times a year to plan for the Queen’s funeral as part of a plan with the code name “London Bridge.”

Apparently, the prime minister of the UK would be notified of her death first, before news is sent to the governments where the Queen is the head of state and the 36 countries in the Commonwealth.

So, good chance it wouldn’t be through a dodgy WhatsApp convo then? Probably not.
