It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

Tetris Has A New Fortnite-Style Battle Royale Mode, Because Of Course It Does, And You Can Play It For Free Right Now

Tetris, but make it Fortnite.

There’s a lot going on with the Nintendo announcements today, including Super Mario Maker 2, a Smash Bros Ultimate 3.0 update, and a Switch remake of Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.

But easily the biggest and most exciting news of the day has to be one of the simplest and most genius game concepts we’ve heard in ages:

Tetris, but make it Fortnite.

Yes, the classic format, which got a brilliant and concept-revitalising update last year in the VR-enabled Tetris Effect, now has a battle royale mode called Tetris 99.

99 players are pitted against one another to be the last one standing. You can throw “garbage” (so, you know, the usual pieces AKA tetrominoes) into other players’ games to block their strategies, but otherwise it’s basically just the simple but mind-melting, vision-warping game you know and love.

It’s available as a free download now for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. So, you know, maybe go become one of those if you aren’t already so that you can let this game ruin your life all over again.
