As the year comes to a close, we’re starting to see the ‘most popular __ of 2019’ lists, which I absolutely love. One particular list that jumped out at me this morning was a breakdown of the most popular pet names of 2019, and it looks like we’re about to be overrun with dogs named Taylor Swift.
Rover is a pet-care business and they’ve done the hard yards of keeping track of the names that we give our furry friends. They’ve put it all together with a nice little bow, and the results are here for us to scroll through and judge, my friends.
Taylor Swift has been kicking goal after goal, to the point where she’s been officially named artist of the decade by the AMAs. She’s already got an overflowing trophy cabinet, but now she can now brag to everyone about another title: most popular musician themed pet name.
Imagine calling out “Taylor Swift, come here!”, or “No, Taylor Swift, put that down!”, or “Go and get it, Taylor Swift!” at the dog park. Because people are absolutely doing that, and way more often than I would have expected.
For the record, the list of top muso names has seven entries and looks like this:
1. Taylor Swift
2. Khalid
3. Madonna
4. Ariana
5. David Bowie
6. Lady Gaga
7. Beyoncé
And while not quite cracking the list of most popular names, pets named Lizzo have doubled since this time last year.
The list of regular non-themed names doesn’t stray too far from what you’d probably expect when you think of dog names. The most popular names for girl dogs are Bella, Luna, Lucy, Daisy, Lily, Zoe, Lola, Molly, Sadie, and Bailey. Boy dogs are mostly called Max, Charlie, Cooper, Buddy, Rocky, Milo, Jack, Bear, Duke, and Teddy.
While we don’t have the exact number of dogs per name, I for one have decided to welcome our (many) new overlords: dogs named Taylor Swift.
