Armie Hammer Apologises After Criticising How People Grieved The Death Of Stan Lee, Admits He Was An ‘Asshat’ After Jeffrey Dean Morgan Calls Him Out

The Call Me By Your Name star says he will work on his "twitter impulse control".

Armie Hammer has apologised for comments he made on Twitter immediately following the death of Stan Lee, where he suggested that some tributes to the late comic book writer were in bad taste.

After the death of Lee at 95 years old, Armie hammer made a series of tweets criticising celebrities who simply posted pictures of themselves with the renown superhero creator.

Notably, in a now-deleted tweet, he said:

So touched by all of the celebrities posting pictures of themselves with Stan Lee… no better way to commemorate an absolute legend than putting up a picture of yourself.

Which is a fair point to make… literally any time other than right after someone has died.

Us @ Armie Hammer after that tweet.

Almost immediately after, The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan rebutted Hammer’s take, saying that The Lone Ranger star was using “…others ways of mourning and their memories to draw some attention to yourself.”

Now, Armie has walked back the comments, admitting that it was an “asshat” move.

Look, Armie kind of has a point: using someone’s death to share any picture you have of you and that someone is a bit weird at best.

But on the other hand, we should let people grieve however they want. Even if that means publicly sharing the moment or moments they spent with someone we’ve just lost. It’s not our place to judge.

At the end of the day, it’s a shame this has taken away from both the loss of a true icon and what Armie Hammer really should be doing: preparing for Call Me By Your Name 2.
