When Avengers: Infinity War was released we were heartbroken to find out Tom Holland had improvised the scene where Spider-Man turns to dust in Tony Stark’s arms.

But now, we’ve found out he also improvised his performance in Tony’s death scene in Avengers: Endgame.
The filmmakers revealed before Endgame that very few people actually saw the full script, as they were scared about spoilers – and let’s be honest, they need to be worried when it comes to Tom! But it would seem that the young actor doesn’t need to see a script in order to do some of his best work.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Tom said there wasn’t a script for Tony’s final moments.
“It was interesting because when we shot that scene with Robert there was no real script, at all.”
“It was just Kevin Feige, the two Russo Brothers, myself, Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Don Cheadle. They kind of brought us to set, they kind of told us what was going to happen, or what they wanted to happen, and then we sort of just improvised if I can remember correctly.”
“So it was a really, really interesting way to shoot such a kind of pivotal scene of the movie, but it was a really emotional day and I mean looking back on it now it was maybe the craziest day I’ve ever had on set, you know? But it was really amazing and turned out to be a fantastic scene.”
In case you can’t remember the details of the scene, Rhodey has a silent goodbye with Tony, while a tearful Peter bends down and repeats, “Mr Stark, we won, we did it, sir. You did it, Mr Stark. Tony.” He then apologises and breaks down as Pepper comforts him.
Tony then sees Pepper and says, “Hey, Pep,” to which she responds, “We’re gonna be OK. You can rest now.”
Aaaand just like that, my heart has broken once again.
One thing that does stand out, however, is the fact that Tom says, “If I can remember correctly,” so, does that mean there’s a chance this isn’t what actually happened?!
Because in that case, we are genuinely worried Spider-Man may suffer a similar fate to Friends‘ Joey Tribbiani’s Days Of Our Lives character Dr Drake Ramoray. Drake was killed off the show after the writers found out Joey told a journalist he writes his own lines. Sound familiar?!
So, all we’re saying is be careful what you say, Tom, and also, please stop breaking our hearts in these movies!
