Mel C’s Backhanded Roasting Of Victoria Beckham Is Not The Spice Girls Way

More like Salty Spice.

Beloved Spice Girls Mel C, Geri Horner, Emma Bunton and Mel B are hitting the road for a string of reunion shows in the UK later this year, but unfortunately, Victoria Beckham won’t be joining them.

It makes sense since Victoria has moved on from her Posh Spice identity to new family and career success, and it seems like there’s no love lost between the original band members.

Except the Spice Girls are being pretty cavalier this week, from Mel B confessing that she and Geri Horner (Ginger Spice) once slept together, and now Mel C has shared her explanation for Victoria not joining the reunion tour that has a bit of a salty after taste.

Appearing on Jay Rayner’s Out to Lunch podcast this week, Mel C (AKA Sporty Spice, AKA Melanie Chisholm) indicated that Beckham’s reason for not performing is that she just doesn’t love it enough.

“I’m sure, Victoria wouldn’t mind me saying, the Olympics was hard for her,” Mel C said, referring to Beckham’s last performance during the London closing ceremony in 2012. “You know, she’s moved on, her life has changed, and she just doesn’t have that love of performing, and in fact, it completely petrifies her.”

“She’s extremely busy and successful in what she’s doing. She has put her heart and soul into her business, and … to step away from that, and … not give it the time that she does at the moment would be difficult,” Mel C told Rayner. “But also, I’m sure, if she felt passionate about being on stage and loved it, then she’d be there.”

“We’re all very sensitive of that, and we completely understand,” she continued, insisting that neither she nor the other remaining Spice Girls hold any bad feelings towards Beckham. “We’re all sad that Victoria won’t be joining us, but it’s all genuinely very supportive you know, obviously understand and support her.”

Perhaps Mel C really didn’t mean to sound so salty, and it was just the wrong choice of words. Though it’s hard to believe that announcing to the public that Victoria Beckham is “petrified” of performing and just doesn’t love it enough to join the tour, is something that would make Victoria Beckham feel great.

But I will try to believe that this was just a misjudgment of time, place and platform to share these sentiments, and that The Spice Girls really do just all love each other.
