It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

Sophie Monk Turned Down Heather Graham’s Role In The Hangover For A B-Grade Movie & It’s Probably A Good Thing She Can Laugh About Herself

Luckily, Sophie's a soldier on kind of gal.

It was the surprise Hollywood hit that went on to make nearly half a billion dollars at the Box Office, but The Hangover could have been even bigger, better, and funnier if Sophie Monk accepted a role in the flick back in 2009.

Yep, Monk was given the chance to star in the funny film but turned down the “missed opportunity” to star in a B-grade horror film that went straight to DVD.

While chatting to Nova’s breakfast show hosts Fitzy and Wippa, Monk admitted she was offered the part of Jade – you know the stripper with the baby who marries loveable Stu (Ed Helms)?

Not only did Monk pass up the opportunity (the role was later given to Heather Graham), she lost out on some serious mullah in the process.

“I was meant to be Heather Graham in The Hangover, but I decided to do this weird movie where I end up sleeping with my father, having a baby with him. It just got weird. It was a horror film. I was like, ‘I smell an Oscar, I smell an Oscar,’ and guess what? I got nothing. I didn’t even get residuals!”

Monk told the guys she chose the horror flick The Hills Run Red over The Hangover due to her thoughts on the script.

“I went: This is ridiculous, this script. As if Mike Tyson would come out with this tattoo, and there’s a baby in a closet? This doesn’t even make sense. Makes MUCH more sense to have sex with my dad in a film.”

Oh, Soph, it’s OK, we’ve all been there…

Thankfully Monk has a pretty wicked sense of humour and can laugh about it now.

“I got ‘Best Naked Chick in a DVD’. Not even in a film, because it went straight to DVD. I was so proud! It’s still with me today – it’s the only award I’ll ever need.”

Monk’s ability to poke fun at herself was certainly an asset when she realised just how successful The Hangover had become, and is one of the many reasons why we love her so much.

Pure gold, pure Sophie.

Monk starred in a handful of Hollywood films (Date Movie and Click) before eventually moving back to Australia to continue her career on home soil, and we’ve loved every second of it.

From The Bachelorette to Love Island, Sophie has captured our hearts time and time again, and it looks like she’s enjoying herself too, so forget The Hangover.

Sophie never needed it anyway.
