Sonic the Hedgehog being adapted into a live-action film has already turned a lot of heads with its oddly buff representation of Sonic. We were not ready . for swole Sonic, but he is coming our way at signature speed regardless.

Now things have escalated with a peak at Jim Carrey’s representation of Sonic’s arch nemesis, Dr. Ivo ‘Eggman’ Robotnik. Reportedly the image is from the film’s first trailer, which is set to drop tomorrow (Wednesday May 1).

The general reception among fans is displeasure with Dr. Robotnik looking like some kind of a whiskey/coffee specialist who thoroughly enjoys explaining both whiskey and coffee to you.

He’s not exactly what people had in mind, and alongside the ripped CGI Sonic it’s making the whole production seem very odd.

Outlets like Polygon – which have already seen the trailer – noted that Robotnik’s aesthetic does change as the film goes on so that it moves towards the look of the cartoon counterpart. Apparently this is as ‘normal‘ as he looks so perhaps Jim Carrey will get bigger and better by the end?
We’ll see what happens in tomorrow’s trailer, and then when Sonic the Hedgehog comes to cinemas on November 9.
