In case you missed it, beloved video game character Sonic the Hedgehog is getting his own live action/animated film from Paramount Pictures in 2019. The hype is real.
My hype for the sonic movie is higher than any movie ever released. I cannot wait to see creepy long legged sonic zoom around and punch Dr RobotCarey in the nuts. The only movie that might top it is the Mario movie being made by minions. What a time to be alive.

But IGN just shared the first look at the live-action Sonic in the form of a motion poster, and it’s…unexpected.
Yes, Sonic is fast. Yes, Sonic is blue. But Sonic is also seriously swole. He’s in amazing shape. Too amazing.
Sonic the Hedgehog has most definitely not been skipping leg day my friends.

While we can accept that Sonic is some kind of alien blue creature that does not inhabit earth, we really didn’t expect to see the adaptation give him such human legs and general physique. It’s kinda disconcerting.
It’s not like we expected an actual hedgehog likeness, because those bad boys do not look speedy:
But the live-adaptation Sonic silhouette is getting dangerously close to looking like a hottie with an extravagant hat.
Anthropomorphism is a slippery slope, and Sonic is on the verge of being my new animated crush. I hate it.

People have also commented on the fact that Sonic is a lot fluffier than they imagined, but apparently there were practical reasons for that – like hiding his junk.
“It would be weird and it would feel like he was running around nude if he was some sort of otter-like thing,” executive producer Tim Miller (director of Deadpool) told IGN. “It was always, for us, fur, and we never considered anything different. It’s part of what integrates him into the real world and makes him a real creature.”
Anyway, between Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation) voicing Sonic and this absolute unit of a live-action adaptation, we’re actually still very hyped to see what comes of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie next year.
