My Twitter feed has been flooded with ‘controversial opinions’ posts this week. People wanting your controversial opinions on food, taxes, movies, everything.
It was a harmless enough meme until some poor social media intern at Jewish news site, The Forward, tweeted “What’s your most controversial opinion on Judaism?”
That bin fire went down about as well as you’d expect. It’s 2019 after all, and unfortunately literal Nazis are more common than anybody would like.
It wasn’t the only major social media fail of the year, of course, so let’s take a walk down memory lane shall we…

This is straight up my favourite flop of 2019. Angus Taylor, a man who is currently being investigated by the NSW police for allegedly faking documents, was caught accidentally praising himself when he forgot to switch Facebook accounts. My apologies to every Angus I ever meet from here on out for quoting “Fantastic. Well done. Great job Angus” at every opportunity.
Israel Folau
I couldn’t not mention this. Israel Foloau posted on Instagram that all gay people are going to hell (along with drunks, fornicators, atheists, all that jazz), he got fired, the rest is history.
Chase Bank’s #MondayMotivation
Banks should probably just stay away from social media altogether really. Anyway, Chase Bank tweeted that the reason we’re all poor is that we don’t coffee at home, eat the food in the fridge, or catch taxis. Thanks guys, all my problems are solved!
Every Politician During The Election Campaign
Eighteen candidates were dropped during the lead up to the 2019 election, and a grand total of six of those were for posting dumb stuff on social media. There were racist comments, jokes about sexual assault, homophobic comments, and even one dude who wrote a long, unhinged post about how post about how the world is being run by a society of Jewish, shapeshifting lizards.
