This Woman Swallowing Her Ring In Her Sleep Is Every Nightmare You've Ever Had

Great, sleep-eating jewellery - another thing to keep you awake all night.

You know when you have a dream where you do something and then wake up horrified that maybe your sleeping self couldn’t be trusted?

You know, you’re imagining of going for a lovely swim in a nice warm ocean, all alone with no-one to judge you – and then awaken to discover that a cheeky sea-wee wasn’t entirely exclusive to your dreams.

We got science to recreate this experience.

Well, one Californian woman, Jenna Evans, was having a bit of an anxiety dream about her upcoming wedding.

In this dream she was on a train and being pursued by some baddies who sought to rob her so she did the sane thing of taking off her engagement ring and swallowing it. Evans one, dream-thieves zero!

Except then she woke up, thought “heck, weird dream,” and then noticed her unexpectedly ringless finger.

This is because it turned out that as she dreamed, she was swallowing her ring in her sleep. And she took to Facebook to tell the tale, adding that she woke her fiance and…

“We laughed pretty hard for about an hour and a half, called my mom, laughed until we were crying, googled ‘do other adults swallow rings’ because kids do it all the time, but apparently it’s less common for adults.”

Yes. It is less common for adults.

Things got a mite more serious when doctors pointed out that letting the ring pass naturally from her body was far too dangerous since things with edges can tear holes in intestines, or get caught there and block things up, and then… um, “things” got real.

An endoscopy later the ring was located in her large intestine and was back on her hand a few days later, presumably after a bit of a wipe down, and the wedding is still on. But let this be a reminder that your sleeping brain is going to mess with you.

So… um, to avoid swallowing a ring in your sleep, maybe de-ring before bed? Or at least coat it with something tasty and very, very slippery.
