Jerry Seinfeld's Attitude To Show Reboots Should Be Applied To Everything

Couldn't agree more.

We live in an age of reboots, when we go to the cinemas, there’s a huge chance it’s to see a rebooted movie. Disney must be responsible for most of the reboots happening nowadays considering all of their live-action versions of our favourite cartoons.

Even on television, we’ve got Veronica Mars making a comeback – to be honest, we’re actually pretty excited for it, but that’s beside the point! Will and Grace has already returned to screens and pretty much every week there’s talk of a Friends reboot – and we seriously hope it never happens.

And thank God Jerry Seinfeld feels the same way.

During an interview with 60 Minutes, Seinfeld said he’d never consider rebooting his show.

When asked whether he’d be interested in bringing Seinfeld back he said, “Oh no, no, no.”

Reporter Liz Hayes asked, “Done?”

He responded, “Done. How could it – what could I do to it to make it better?” Adding, “If you can’t make it better, don’t touch it… Not possible.”

Sure, some reboots have worked, for example Mad Max: Fury Road, A Star Is Born and Batman Begins to name just a few were great. But it seems it’s pretty difficult to succeed with a TV reboot, look at Gilmore Girls for example – it just didn’t work.

Queer Eye is a great example of a TV reboot succeeding, but it could be because it’s a reality show and therefore they couldn’t just copy the narrative of the previous version of the show.

If only more people in the entertainment biz felt the same way as Jerry. But honestly, if you want more Seinfeld or Friends or whatever it might be, just rewatch the original?

Reboots feel lazy, and if we can’t make them better, why bother?
