Ruby Rose has left Twitter, due to the strong backlash to her casting as superhero Batwoman.
Earlier this week, US network CW announced that Aussie Ruby Rose would take on the role of Batwoman, the out lesbian cousin of Batman’s Bruce Wayne, in their larger “CW-verse”, which also includes Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and The Legends Of Tomorrow, among others.
Hey @RubyRose — Welcome!! It’s characters like Batwoman that will carry our Universe into the future. See you soon!

While a variety of big names have supported her, including her former Orange Is The New Black castmates, and future castmate Stephen Amell (who plays the Green Arrow in the DC TV universe), the wider response to the news of her casting has been far more polarising.
The comments have varied from comments about Ruby Rose’s acting skills to her not being the “right” type of lesbian actress to play the Jewish lesbian superhero.
so the CW couldve casted Ashley Platz, actual jewish actress to play jewish lesbian Batwoman, one important aspect of BW is met w/ her casting but instead they went with RR who is mediocre at best, nowhere near jewish & doesnt identify as a lesbian. zero aspects met.
im so tired

In particular, some conservative commentators are directing comments at her playing a typical “SJW” character, despite the fact that the current incarnation of Batwoman has existed for over a decade and is well-established in the DC Comics canon.
There are maybe about 7 or 8 people in existence who really want to see a lesbian SJW Batwoman series. Those people are certainly thrilled by this announcement. https://t.co/nA1b7dTRGz

Just FYI men, Batwoman wasn’t going to fuck you even if she weren’t gay.

Ruby Rose remains on Instagram, however with heavily filtered and moderated comments.
Ruby Rose is, unfortunately, the latest celebrity to leave social media due to toxic comments and trolls, joining the likes of Star Wars’ Kelly Marie Tran and Daisy Ridley and Stranger Things’ Millie Bobbie Brown.
Unfortunately, unless there’s a large change in culture and behaviour, it doesn’t look set to stop anytime soon.
