Meghan Markle Publicly Showing Her Vulnerability Shows She's Human Just Like Us

Sometimes a simple "are you okay" means everything, regardless of whether you're Meghan Markle or not.

It goes without saying that Meghan Markle has become one of the most scrutinised people on this green(ish) earth ever since she married Prince Harry and become part of the British Royal Family.

The Duchess of Sussex has handled the attention like an absolute champ for the most part, especially in the face of the unrelenting British tabloids who seem to think she’s the devil or something.

Having said that though, the constant barrage of attention is bound to take its toll and Meghan admitted that the intense scrutiny is a bit much to handle sometimes.

Chatting to Tom Bradby for ITV‘s documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, Meghan says the crazy amount of attention has left her feeling “vulnerable” and it’s been especially difficult to cope given how she’s a newlywed and a new mother.

But perhaps the most honest part of Meghan’s chat is her admission that not many people have asked her if she’s “okay” throughout the whirlwind of craziness that’s gone on in her life over the last few years.

“Thank you for asking because not many people have asked if I’m okay, but it’s a very real think to be going through behind the scenes.”

Just because Meghan Markle lives a life of privilege, especially after marrying Prince Harry and becoming part of the Royal Family, doesn’t mean she isn’t prone to moments of weakness and vulnerability like the rest of us.

Meghan has projected an image of being “fine” for ages and her open admission here not only shows how much of a toll the negative attention has on her, it’s also pretty representative of how women, particularly new mothers, are expected to put up a front of being “okay” at all times because of ridiculous societal expectations.

Sometimes all it takes is a simple “are you okay” for it to mean everything, regardless of who you are. All the respect in the world for Meghan for standing tall in the face of adversity and for being honest in telling everyone about her own struggles.
