It’s been a big day for… Listening to...

Rose McGowan Only Did Charmed To Keep Her Profile Up So That Her Weinstein Revelations Would Make An Impact, But What About The Love Of Sister Witches?

You could almost say the Power of Three really did set her free…

There’s literally only one thing you could say to a true Charmed fan that would break our hearts.

‘What would that be?’ I hear you ask.

It’s the idea that the actresses who played the roles we obsessed over and coveted with our entire beings – didn’t actually want to be there.

That these actresses were on set for literally any other reason beyond the love of the Power of Three is devastating for us (yes we’re a bit loopy but dammit we’re committed).

That’s why it stings extra hard that Rose McGowan has revealed she only joined the cast of Charmed because she had her own personal agenda (albeit in amazingly important one that I wholeheartedly respect but didn’t want know about because I didn’t want the fantasy of Charmed ruined).

While chatting to The Hollywood Reporter, McGowan said she signed up for the role of Paige Matthews in 2001 in the hopes that her relevancy as a public figure would mean maximum exposure and impact when she eventually came forward with her claims against Harvey Weinstein.

“It was already a hit show when I joined and I realized it was going in all these territories where then I could keep a certain profile just enough to make it newsworthy when it was time. But society wasn’t there yet, they weren’t awake enough yet. [President Donald] Trump really helped. Thanks, Trump.”

Clearly Rose’s decision to join the cast was a considered and strategised one, but as a fan of the series, I’d like to just believe for one more second that she joined the show to be the missing piece to a fictional family that had just lost its most beloved member.

I’ll never get over Prue’s death…

*Note: I have literally been to the Charmed house in Los Angeles and sometimes pretend I have powers, that’s how obsessed I am with this show.

There’s always a lot of hidden truths behind our favourite television series and movies (that’s why I never listen to the commentaries on DVDs), but I really enjoyed living in this fantasy land where Rose McGowan with her somewhat witchy-goth ways had joined Charmed because she felt an affinity to the character she was playing, and the message of the show – feminism, family, and fabulous females.

But I guess if she had to sign on for any other reason than a love of witchcraft and sisterly bonds, this is a pretty damn good one.

And it’s nice to know the series had somewhat of a lasting impact on her life,  which still appears to be relevant to this day.
