Victorians Are Risking Social Distancing Fines For Some Pretty Wild Reasons

"Clearly KFC is popular in lockdown."

Not only has Victoria recently entered a second lockdown, but a cluster of outbreaks from a number of Sydney pubs has started to grow within NSW. However, that hasn’t stopped folks from breaking social distancing rules and risking expensive fines.

According to The New Daily, a whopping 63 fines have been handed out in Victoria over the past 24 hours – including 40 fines issued to people visiting massage parlours and brothels.

News.com.au reports that offenders have been discovered “hiding in cupboards” at house parties, and short-term rentals have also been slammed with fines for allowing these parties to happen.

Speaking of fines, hear about the guy who copped a $1600 fine for the world’s most expensive butter chicken below:

Other fines have been issued to a Melbournian who refused to leave a KFC, even after being asked by police, and two mates caught “playing Pokemon” in a car together.

“The reasons for leaving your premises are well known. I can say that they don’t include playing Pokemon,” Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Rick Nugent said. “Clearly KFC is popular during the lockdown.”

Nugent is not wrong about the hunger for fried chicken amidst strict lockdowns. Just last week, police issued $26,000 in fines to a group of people hosting a birthday party in Victoria. The cops were tipped off after a KFC store in Dandenong received a large order of approximately 20 meals around 1:30am.

The police followed the customers to a townhouse in the same suburb where partygoers attempted to hide in the backyard, garage and even under beds, according to The Guardian.

“That is absolutely ridiculous that type of behaviour, and it’s a very expensive night,” Victoria police commissioner Shane Patton said. “That’s $26,000 that birthday party is costing them. That’s a heck of a birthday party to recall and they’ll remember that one for a long time.”

Today, Victoria recorded a further 270 confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the states total to 4,224.

Considering these growing numbers, it’s not hard to follow the rules and put your Pokemon and fried chicken cravings on hold for a little longer.
