As we await the news on which young, hopeful heart will be ruthlessly torn asunder on The Bachelor this week comes news that it’s all actually for naught because according to a fresh rumour – and obviously this is a massive spoiler – Matt Agnew has supposedly already split with the winner and is seeing one of the runners-up instead.
Don’t read on if you don’t want your hope in the inviolable nature of love on television to be forever ruined.
So: this is season seven and the Bach has an even-stevens record for relationships so far: three enduring couples, two non-starters and the controversial non-choice last year. What a time to be alive!
And the new rumour from New Idea is that Matt pulls a Blake Garvey and dumps the winner for one of the runners up.
In Garvey’s case it was bye bye season 2 winner Samantha Frost and hello, 18 month relationship with Louise Pillage. In Agnew’s it’s supposedly adieu, Chelsie McLeod and guten morgen Abbie Chatfield.
Now, you’d know that we here at GOAT reckon that Abbie and Matt should totes be together and that the main stumbling block to this conclusion is that the show has gone to a huge effort to paint her as the villain and lovely, fragile Chelsie as the deserving winner.
But again, according to that ever-reliable go-to person A Source, Chelsie is very hurt and has point-blank refused to do any press for the show despite being contracted to do so, while Matt has confirmed that he’s with in a relationship with “someone” from the show without adding “…specifically, the person that won because obviously this is how love works.”
And Abbie has reportedly been very cagey about having a new relationship which has involved flying down to Melbourne… aka the city of Mattville! Dum dum DUUUUUMMM!
But that’s not all! The other rumour is that it’s actually a different Bachelor runner up and that Matt has actually hooked back up with Elly Miles, who was dumped off the show a fortnight back and broke the nation’s heart. You know, again.
So: is the villain the ultimate off-screen victor, or will one of Australia’s Bachelor Sweetheart/s triumph despite drama and heartache?
In any case, if Matt and Chelsie have indeed split, our hearts go out to her dad, Snowy.
Oh, Snowy, you never asked to go through all this.
