With over 9.6 million confirmed cases of COVID-19, and almost 500,000 deaths due to the virus across the globe, following rules around health and safety right now are paramount. However, when it comes to wearing a COVID-19 face mask, some members of the public are having none of it – and the excuses are absolutely priceless.
A fiery debate erupted at a public meeting held by the Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners this week after talks of an emergency order to require face masks in an attempt to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Before the board ultimately decided to approve the emergency order, community member Sylvia Ball argued, “they want to throw God’s wonderful breathing system out the door.”
“If we have a second wave, it will be due to masking healthy citizens,” one woman claimed. “I will not tolerate putting a muzzle on my mouth to keep me from speaking to people, to keep them from seeing my smile,” another said.
“It literally is killing people,” community member Cristina alleged. “We the people are waking up, and we know what citizen’s arrest is, because citizen’s arrests are already happening. Every single one of you that are obeying the Devil’s laws are going to be arrested.”
A concerned community member asked, if everyone has to wear masks, “how will young children be able to know who the dangerous deviants are, like pedophiles and humans in the sex trafficking?” Not sure if children have the ability to decipher that based on seeing someone’s mouth and chin, but sure.

Another said, “I am also the daughter of someone who lived through Germany. You’re forced to wear masks, they were forced to wear a star.”
The cherry on top of an already truly bizarre cake has to be the woman who exclaimed, “I don’t wear a mask for the same reason I don’t wear underwear – things gotta breathe!”
In one final flourish, a Trump supporter took the stand and said, “I say Trump 2020, and I hope every one of you gets voted out who votes for a mask.”
It’s a lot to process.
According to the Palm Beach Post, Palm Beach County recorded 5,808 new COVID-19 cases this week and has already seen 495 deaths as a result of the virus.
Research, funded by the World Health Organisation, has found that face masks are an effective method for containing the spread of the virus – along with other social distancing measures. If it helps flatten the curve and save lives, shielding your ‘smile’ is a small sacrifice to make.
