Kristen Larsen Wanted Her Life To Change How We Talk About Ovarian Cancer

Kristen was just 21 when she was diagnosed.

Kristen Larsen wanted one thing made clear about her life: death is not a reflection of losing a battle or a fight. She won by living every day.

Kristen was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer at just 21. Over the next six years she fought, and she documented her journey, becoming an inspiration for other young women.

She started work on a podcast, titled Ovarshare, showcasing the ups and downs of fighting back against cancer, and won Podquest 2018 in the process.

Sadly, Kristen passed away in late 2019, but she wanted her podcast to change how we talk about cancer.

Listen to the first episode of Ovarshare, Kristen’s Story, here:

She was adamant that cancer didn’t beat her – she beat cancer by living an incredible life.

Only 46% of patients survive ovarian cancer. Just let that sink in for a moment. It’s less than half. And there is no screening test available, the best hope is early detection.

Over the six episodes of Ovarshare, Kristen dives into the symptoms of ovarian cancer, dealing with a diagnosis, and raising awareness and funding research. She talks with women fighting cancer, family, friends and medical professionals and charity sectors.

February is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and you can show your support by wearing a Teal Ribbon on Wednesday 26 February.
