Jenna Dewan And Channing Tatum's Divorce Story Is All Too Familiar, Sadly

Can relate.

Every once in a while a couple comes along that makes you believe in true love…

…then that couple breaks up and, suddenly, you hate love. Love is dead. Love is a myth. And the world is a dark, horrible place.

Jenna Dewan and Channing Tatum are just one example of a celebrity breakup that sent me into a spiral of bitterness and sadness.

The couple called it quits earlier this year after nearly NINE YEARS of marriage and over a decade together. Their love story was perfect: they met on the Set of Step Up where they played each others’ love interests and the rest, as they say, is history.

Their divorce came as a surprise and a shock, but the details of that divorce are not shocking at all. In fact, they’re all too relatable.

In her new book, Jena writes:

“I’d come to realise the dynamic I was in wasn’t serving me nor was it serving my daughter

“First and foremost I had to accept the realisation this isn’t working and had moved into hurting.”

Everyone knows what it’s like to be in a relationship that goes from love to hurt. Coming to that realisation sucks but it’s a tale as old as time. You become bitter and snappy and every little thing your partner does starts to annoy you. Maybe you know why it’s happening, maybe you don’t, but we’ve all been there.

And it sucks.

It especially sucks when you have a reputation for being the “perfect” couple. This is also something Jenna says she struggled with during her and Channing’s divorce.

“The public saw Channing and I in this idealised romanticised light,” she wrote. “This made things difficult for me because I like being as honest and real as I can.”

Like I said, relatable. It’s sad to think that so many people around the world know this feeling but it’s just a part of life, I suppose. That doesn’t make it any more fun to experience, but knowing you’re not alone does ease the pain a little.
