Home Alone's Getting A Reboot But There's A Major 21st Century Factor Disney's Ignoring

Will Kevin be making an appearance?

After acquiring the 21st Century Fox titles, Disney has decided to reboot Home Alone for its Disney+ platform.

The original 1990 flick that made Macaulay Culkin famous has already had multiple sequels and reboots, but Disney is now looking to put their own spin on the idea.

At this point, it’s not clear whether the reboot will be a film or a TV series, but what we do know is that they’ll have pretty big shoes to fill.

It’s interesting to see the company is choosing to send the movie straight to streaming rather than to the cinemas. Perhaps they’re hoping the nostalgia factor will cause people to subscribe to the streaming service to watch the movie?

However, it doesn’t look as though fans of the original are particularly interested in seeing a reboot of the film, but it’s possible Disney will find some success in a new generation of kids watching it.

One thing that seems glaringly obvious about the whole thing is that the writers will have to be pretty smart about how they do this, because if the movie is being made nowadays wouldn’t a smartphone or computer just fix most of the problems?

If a child was somehow left at home accidentally, the parents could FaceTime with them or even just get an Uber to pick them up from home.

The original storyline just won’t work for the reboot so we’ll have to assume they’ll change it quite a bit to account for the technology we have today.

I mean, we even have doorbells with cameras on them now.

There’s no word yet on a release date or who will star, direct or write the movie but it’ll be interesting to see which direction they take with it.
