Rachel McAdams' Viral Magazine Cover Shot Bares All To Make A Bold Statement About Motherhood

When you gotta pump, you gotta pump.

Rachel McAdams will always be a queen, ever since playing Queen Bee Regina George in Mean Girls and Queen of the Soppy Romance Films in The Notebook.

But her private life is surprisingly private for someone who is a household name. We didn’t even know that she was pregnant until she was 7 months in, and that is quite the accomplishment.

Considering her usual proneness to keep her personal business to herself, her recent magazine cover shot is a real surprise. And an awesome surprise.

For the latest cover of Girls Girls Girls magazine, McAdams has made a splash with a bold pro-motherhood image that depicts her looking gorgeous, glamourous, and using a breast pump.

Claire Rothstein, the magazine’s founder, shared the cover to Instagram.

Rothstein explains in the caption how the picture of McAdams wearing Versaci, Bulgari, and a double breast pump, came to happen. Being the mother of a 6-month-old child, McAdams was still breastfeeding, so she was pumping between shots.

The women can’t decide whose idea it was, but one way or another they decided to celebrate the multitasking mothers undertake, and fight the stigmatisation of the practical things (like breastfeeding/pumping) that it involves.

It’s a noble cause and like Rothstein said, if it’s empowering to even one person, it’s worth it.

Judging by the huge response to the image online, a whole lot of women are finding the cover shot empowering.

Obviously motherhood is not always has glamourous as breast pumping in couture on the cover of a magazine, but seeing breast feeding and breast pumping in any context is part of the work that needs to be done to change the way society shames women for bringing something natural and necessary into public space.

Rachel McAdams sharing this part of herself so publicly is brave and beautiful, and Girls Girls Girls magazine sharing it is awesome. Big fans of everyone involved right now.

Also the rest of the shoot is absolute fire.

Here is Claire Rothstein’s full statement shared in her Instagram post:

“A million reasons why I wanted to post this picture.” Rothstein wrote. “Obviously #rachelmcadams looks incredible and was quite literally the dream to work with but also this shoot was about 6 months post her giving birth to her son, so between shots she was expressing/pumping as still breastfeeding.”

“We had a mutual appreciation disagreement about who’s idea it was to take this picture but I’m still sure it was hers which makes me love her even more. Breastfeeding is the most normal thing in the world and I can’t for the life of me imagine why or how it is ever frowned upon or scared of. I don’t even think it needs explaining but just wanted to put this out there, as if it even changes one person’s perception of something so natural, so normal, so amazing then that’s great. Besides she’s wearing Versace and @bulgariofficial diamonds and is just fucking major. Big shout out to all the girls ??. “

Mothers should be able to do whatever mothers need to do, anywhere, without being shamed, and this Rachel McAdams magazine cover is a wonderfully bold statement in support of that.
