Trump's Take On Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Royal Announcement Is Unsurprising

"I don't think this should be happening."

Earlier this week it was announced in a statement that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would be stepping back as senior members of the Royal Family and everyone – including US President Donald Trump – has thoughts on the matter.

The statement read, “We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.

“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”

They finished by saying, “We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.”

Not long after, a statement from the Queen was released which read, “We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”

Very awkward.

While there are some supporters who are happy that Harry and Meghan are doing what is best for them and their family, there are also some who believe they’ve made the wrong decision. And, unsurprisingly, Trump is a member of the latter group.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump was asked about the Royal announcement and he responded, “I don’t want to get into the whole thing, but I just have such respect for the Queen. I don’t think this should be happening to her.”

He added, “I think it’s sad. She’s a great woman. She’s never made a mistake. If you look, I mean, she’s had, like, a flawless time.”

While I was unaware of Trump’s feelings for the Queen, it really comes as no surprise that he wouldn’t take Meghan’s side.

The Queen might not speak about her political leanings, but Trump and Meghan are famously not keen on each other.

According to Refinery29, in 2016, Meghan showed support for Hillary Clinton’s campaign and she called Trump “divisive” and “misogynistic”.

Meghan even reportedly threatened to move to Canada if he won the election.

Trump’s very mature response? Calling Meghan “nasty”.

While Meghan is now much less vocal about US politics due to the whole being a Royal thing, Trump is pretty much incapable of staying neutral about anything, so I doubt this will be the last we hear from him on the matter.
