No One Asked But Trump Weighed In On Victoria's COVID-19 Spike Anyway

"The Fake News doesn't report this."

In the wake of growing COVID-19 cases, the Victorian government has enforced mandatory face masks, and recently enacted a State of Disaster with the state entering stage four restrictions that include a 8pm to 5am curfew. Victoria is in need of support during these challenging times, but have instead been met by a cocky tweet from none other than US President Donald Trump.

Hear all about Melbourne’s face mask mandates below:

Yesterday, Trump retweeted a Twitter moment explaining Victoria’s State of Disaster and new curfew and captioned it, “Big China Virus breakouts all over the World, including nations which were thought to have done a great job.”

“The Fake News doesn’t report this. USA will be stronger than ever before, and soon!” he added.

Trump’s tweet comes just days after he told reporters that Australia – amongst other countries – is having “tremendous problems” dealing with the global pandemic.

“This resurgence in cases is occurring throughout large portions of our planet – in Japan, China, Australia, Belgium, Spain, France, Germany, Hong Kong – places where they thought they’d really done great,” he said, as per News.com.au.

“It came back, and in a couple of cases came back very strongly. The virus was said to be under control but new cases have risen very significantly once again,” he added. “So when you think somebody is doing well, sometimes you have to hold your decision on that. You have to hold your statements.”

It’s safe to say Donald Trump’s comments on Victoria didn’t go down well with Twitter users, who were quick to suggest he take a look in his own backyard before commenting on someone else’s.

One user wrote, “Trump’s latest effort to distract involves him trying to draw attention to how the pandemic is playing out in other countries, as though that somehow makes the USA look ‘better’? As always, he’s trying to avoid taking responsibility for his own failures.”

Other Twitter users slammed the president for referring to COVID-19 as the “Big China Virus.”

Despite a much larger population than Australia, the United States is far from out of the woods when it comes to beating coronavirus. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been over 58,000 confirmed cases in the US over the past 24 hours, including 1,132 new deaths as a result of the virus.
