Hate To Break It To You, But Your OS Travel Plans Are A Long Way Off

Your wunderlust will have to wait.

Wondering when you can travel OS again? Spoiler alert, it’s not looking good.

Sorry kids, if you were planning to hop on an international flight at some point in the near future, we hate to be the ones to tell you, but that’s probably not going to happen.

According to Alexandre de Juniac, the director-general and chief executive of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), international travel might not get back to normal until 2023.

Speaking of the COVID-19 pandemic, we spoke about all those iso-haircuts you’ve been getting on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

The news came via ABC News this morning when Alexandre de Juniac said, “We have published today a new forecast about the potential recovery of the air traffic, and what we see is that things should come back to normal in 2023, which is later than our previous forecast.”

No. No. No.

So, to all of you who had overseas travel plans booked, or to all of you who were overseas when this pandemic started, we’re truly sorry, but you’ll be stuck here for a little while longer.

Alexandre de Juniac continued by documenting his international plan which involves opening up travel within Australia before expanding to international markets.

He said, “What we have planned is to restart the industry, first by reopening domestic markets, then regional continental markets, such as Asia-Pacific, or Europe, or North America… At the end of 2020, the traffic should be between 50 to 55 per cent of the same level that was in place in 2019. So, we would lose something like half the traffic for 2020.”

We know, we know, it’s upsetting. But, hey look on the bright side, maybe you’ll save more money this year? Maybe? Consider us locking 2023 in for an international break, because believe us, by then we will have definitely earnt it.

Until we can get out of the house, we’ll just have to keep being creative in quarantine. Check out our tips on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

Alexandre de Juniac also said, “That shows… the severity of this crisis on air transport…. We should join progressively the historical trends by the beginning of 2023.”

Group flight to Europe in 2023 anyone?

Catch you in 2023 for some OS travel. New York anyone? Until then, stay safe.
