Harry And Meghan Just Dragged The Commonwealth Into Black Lives Matter

"It's not going to be easy."

Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle flew the coop and set up their new life overseas, they’ve started opening up about their feelings towards the royal family – and a recent video discussion hosted by the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust was no exception.

During the chat, Harry and Meghan spoke with young black leaders about racial equality and how to fight against injustices that have become increasingly apparent amidst Black Lives Matter protests all over the world.

“When you look across the Commonwealth, there is no way that we can move forward unless we acknowledge the past,” Harry said. “So many people have done such an incredible job of acknowledging the past and trying to right those wrongs, but I think we all acknowledge there is so much more still to do.”

“It’s not going to be easy and in some cases, it’s not going to be comfortable but it needs to be done, because guess what, everybody benefits,” he said.

The Commonwealth is made up of 54 member states, nearly all former territories of the British Empire, and currently headed up by Queen Elizabeth II.

“We’re going to have to be a little uncomfortable right now, because it’s only in pushing through that discomfort that we get to the other side of this and find the place where a high tide raises all ships,” Markle said.

“Equality does not put anyone on the back foot, it puts us all on the same footing – which is a fundamental human right,” she added.

Harry and Meghan’s comments about the Commonwealth come just one week after legal documents reveal the “institution” did nothing to protect Meghan from UK tabloid media, and that the Duchess wasn’t allowed to defend herself during the Megxit fiasco. Hear about it all below:

“As her friends had never seen her in this state before, they were rightly concerned for her welfare, specifically as she was pregnant, unprotected by the Institution, and prohibited from defending herself,” the documents state.

Markle’s lawyers also claim that “the people who knew her best were told that they needed to remain silent.”

“The Claimant believes that it is probably because of this reason, as well as concerns about the press intrusion by the UK tabloids, that a few friends chose to participate and they did so anonymously,” they state.

As Harry and Meghan continue to build a new life for themselves, outside the confines of Buckingham Palace, it seems as though they’re doing away with many of the ‘rules’ of the royal family and finally speaking their truth.
