Greta Thunberg Has Targeted Roger Federer And Divided Everyone's Loyalty

Oh please don't make us choose...

We make it no secret that we’re massive Greta Thunberg fans here at GOAT due to her great work in raising awareness about climate change and how she just DGAF about what people think of her. But now she’s tested our loyalty to her like never before because it appears that she’s painted a target on the back of someone else we love dearly here at GOAT: tennis legend Roger Federer.

This whole thing started when Greta retweeted a post from 350.org Europe which called out Credit Suisse (second largest bank in Switzerland) for investing $57 billion (not a typo) into fossil fuel companies and took a swipe at Roger Federer.

This was followed by another post from Greta in which she retweeted a tweet commenting on how “young people had the audacity to ask [Roger Federer] (through non-violent action) to stop supporting Credit Suisse’s investments in fossil fuels,” and how these young people in question are getting sued by the Swiss bank (on top of a 20,000 euros fine) for their peaceful protests.

At this point, you’re probably asking “what exactly is the link between Greta Thunberg, Roger Federer and Credit Suisse here?” Well Federer has been a long-time ambassador for Credit Suisse and is basically the face of this Swiss bank.

We love Federer but it’s perhaps not the best look to be aligned with a company that’s pumping money into fossil fuels, especially with Greta going around raising awareness about the environment. At the same though, most investment funds have some sort of coin in coal and fossil fuels and whatnot, so it’s not that unusual. Plus it’s not like he’s going around telling people how great fossil fuels are.

Still though, we’re stuck between a rock and a hard place because we love both Greta and Federer, but this fossil fuels thing has thrown a wrench in the works.

Federer hasn’t commented on Greta’s retweet or the people asking him to stop supporting Credit Suisse’s fossil fuel stance, and we shouldn’t expect him to either given how he’s remained apolitical throughout his career, not to mention how he’s busy, you know, playing tennis.
