You're Probably Breathing In Human Remains At Disneyland

They even have a special vacuum.

There’s an urban legend about there being human remains in Disneyland, most famously Walt’s frozen body. It turns out the truth is so much worse.

People are spreading the ashes of their loved ones at Disneyland, and it happens way more than you’re expecting. About once a month apparently, which is often enough that they have a code for it.

If someone throws up on a ride, the code is “Code V.” It’s “Code U” for urine, and if someone dumps what’s left of Grandma somewhere in the park, they have to call “HEPA cleanup.”

HEPA is, of course, the name of the ultra-fine vacuum cleaner that’s needed to suck up all the ashes properly.

I imagine this is what it feels like to use that vacuum.

Ashes get chucked in flower beds, outside Cinderella’s Castle, and in the moat underneath the Dumbo ride. They get tossed everywhere, but there is one place that more ashes end up than anywhere else. The Haunted Mansion ride.

One Disneyland worker has said that “The Haunted Mansion probably has so much human ashes in it that it’s not even funny.”

According to a Disney spokesperson, “this type of behavior is strictly prohibited and unlawful. Guests who attempt to do so will be escorted off property.” Clearly not everyone is being caught though, because people are sneaky as hell. Some people have spoken about taking ashes in through security by hiding them in prescription-pill bottles or makeup compacts, so they’re clearly dedicated to the plan.

Fantastic.

I must admit, The Haunted Mansion seems like an odd choice. I can understand a Disney fanatic wanting their final resting place to be somewhere iconic like the Pirates of the Carribean ride or underneath the fireworks display. I suppose the Haunted Mansion ride is iconic as well, but it’s also a haunted mansion complete with ghost projections.

Who knows though, maybe not all of them are projections. Sounds like there’s a good chance that someone’s Grandma Dot is still hanging out in there.
