You Can Now Purchase Grimes' Soul, If That's Your Thing

But it's not cheap.

If Grimes and Elon Musk naming their baby X Æ A-12, and then changing it to X Æ A-Xii didn’t boggle your mind enough – have a geeze at Grimes’ first online fine-art show, featuring her literal soul.

Speaking of Grimes and Elon Musk’s baby, hear about other crazy baby names below:

This week, the singer announced she would be selling a percentage of her soul (!!) as part of the digital exhibition. According to Bloomberg, Grimes’ art show features “edgy-looking, anime-horror” prints, drawings and photographs, but there are also “more subtle” pieces, like her soul.

Grimes’ artwork ‘Selling Out’ is “a legal document whereby the purchaser acquires a percentage of Grimes’s soul.”

“I didn’t want anyone to buy it, so I said we should just make it $10M and then it probably won’t sell,” she said. An interesting logic, but sure. “Also, I really wanted to collaborate with my lawyer on art. The idea of a fantastical art in the form of legal documents just seems very intriguing to me.”

While Grimes originally priced her soul for $10M, she relisted it for the best offer, taking into consideration the economic impact of COVID-19. “With the current state of the world, do you want to put something up for $10 million?” she asked. So thoughtful.

“I made art 10, 12 years before I ever touched a keyboard,” Grimes told Bloomberg. “I see myself as a visual artist first and foremost, and I’ve always felt strange that people know me for my music.”

It’s not the first time Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher, has landed herself a spicy headline or two. News of her child’s name resulted in a tidal wave of hilarious memes, and the same thing happened in 2019, when she told Adidas her workout routine involves “experimental eye surgery.”

One thing is for certain, Grimes is intent on marching to the beat of her own drum. If you want to check out her art show, it’s simultaneously taking place online at Gallery Platform Los Angeles and Maccarone Los Angeles from now until late August.
