Coronavirus doesn’t discriminate, and the number of high profile people testing positive for COVID-19 is proof of that. Just take Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, who were diagnosed with coronavirus last week while shooting Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopic in Australia.
Hanks has reassured fans via Instagram that he and Wilson are doing just fine and taking it “one-day-at-a-time.”

In a recent post, Hanks updated his fans, telling them: “There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no? Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx.”
It was heartwarming to see Hanks and Wilson looking so chipper, however a more recent social media post has his followers in a frenzy for a different reason.
Over the weekend, Hanks posted a photo of his Vegemite toast surrounded by a toy kangaroo and koala with the caption, “Thanks to the Helpers. Let’s take care of ourselves and each other. Hanx.”
The Internet was quick to point out that Tom Hanks’ toast was smothered in a controversial amount of Vegemite – an acquired taste for many.
Hanks’ toast pic set off an intense Twitter debate, with some users noting that he was using the “correct amount of yeast-based spread,” while others were concerned that his Vegemite usage was worse than his coronavirus diagnosis.
Personally, I think that’s way too much Vegemite, even for a true blue Aussie. The key to the perfect Vegemite toast, in my opinion, is a ratio of 70% butter and 30% Vegemite. All you need is a delicate smear for that perfect salty bite.
Hanks and his wife have been able to find the lighter side of their quarantine period, and it’s no surprise we’re hanging on to the trivial Vegemite debate, either. With cases of coronavirus spreading at a rapid rate, we’re all in need of a little comic relief.
