TIL: Brad Pitt Has A Brother Who's Done Far Bigger Things Than Win An Oscar

Who cares about working with Quentin Tarantino (twice) when you can save lives?

It must be tough being Brad Pitt’s brother, Doug Pitt. Not only are you the younger sibling, which immediately puts you behind in the genetics race, your older brother happens to be one of the most famous people in the world and is a beloved actor who has won an Oscar.

That’s a lot to live up to and is a recipe for some sort of sibling resentment. But alas there’s no “Brad Pitt’s brother” complex for Doug Pitt as he’s done some incredible things that’s far more important than working with Quentin Tarantino (twice).

Speaking of Oscars, the GOAT team talk about how the Academy Awards forgot Luke Perry in its In Memoriam segment on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

While Brad Pitt went down the Hollywood A-list route, Doug Pitt decided to become a businessman and ended up becoming quite a successful one at that. Since founding ServiceWorld Computer Center in 1991, Doug has dipped his toes in a number of successful multi-million ventures.

Having said that, Doug’s most noteworthy achievements have been his philanthropy. Starting in 1995, he’s served on many boards, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Make A Wish and The Red Cross, as well as a number of international hunger missions, such as Convoy Of Hope.

After hearing the statistics about poverty in Southwest Missouri, he went on to found Care To Learn in 2008, which is an organisation aimed at providing funding for child health, hunger and hygiene needs. Since its inception, Care To Learn has expanded to 35 chapters and funded over 1 million needs requests, which is a stunning number in every single way.

But Doug’s biggest project is perhaps his work with WorldServe International, a non-profit organisation that operations one of the largest water drilling companies in East Africa and aims to provide clean water to people. In the decade and a half since he’s joined the board, Doug’s used his water drilling know-how to bring clean water to 2 million people in East Africa.

In addition to clean water, Doug also became Tanzania’s first-ever goodwill ambassador and has helped bridge cultural barriers in hopes of bringing more Western businesses and philanthropists over. Hell, Tanzania like Doug so much they let him take a bike up Mount Kilimanjaro and he subsequently became the first American to climb that mountain before descending on a mountain bike. That’s objectively cooler than winning an Oscar.

While he may be a businessman and philanthropist, Doug has appeared in front of the camera a few times and has taken the piss out of Brad in doing so.

So while Brad Pitt may have saved people onscreen and won an Oscar, those achievements pale in comparison to the philanthropy and live-saving efforts of his younger brother, Doug Pitt. Good work, bro.
