The Story Behind The 'Succulent Chinese Meal' Guy Is Weirder Than That Cop's Judo

THIS IS DEMOCRACY MANIFEST.

The “Succulent Chinese Meal Guy” is one of the greatest videos to ever hit the internet after going viral over a decade ago, and now Aussie punk rockers The Chats have brought back to scream “THIS IS DEMOCRACY MANIFEST” in their new music video.

Speaking of weird things, the GOAT team talk about the wildest conspiracies of the past year on ‘It’s Been A Big Day For…’ below:

For those who have no idea who this Succulent Chinese Meal Guy is, a man allegedly named Paul Charles Dozsa was arrested in Sydney during the 80s for a series of alleged dine and dash crimes, and the whole incident was so bizarre that a video of the moment went viral when it was shared around in 2009.

Deemed as one of the most eloquent arrests ever, the video depicts the now-infamous Succulent Chinese Meal guy valiantly resisting arrest. But instead of fighting back with fists, the dude decides to use his boom Shakespeare voice to shout instantly iconic lines such as “gentlemen, this is democracy manifest”, “what is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?”, and of course, “I see that you know your judo well”.

Given the Succulent Chinese Meal Guy place in Australia’s viral hall of fame, it seems very fitting that he is getting a second wave of attention thanks to an Aussie punk group like The Chats, who got the guy to reenact the infamous arrest in the band’s music video for ‘Dine N Dash’.

Needless to say that the Succulent Chinese Meal Guy’s reappearance in 2020 has stirred up a lot of questions about how the dude is still alive given rumours of his death and what not. Well as it turns out, the story behind the guy’s arrest right up to his appearance in The Chats’ video is weirder than that cop’s judo moves.

According to a serious investigation in 2019 by The Brag, the man whom people know as the Succulent Chinese Meal Guy isn’t actually named Paul Charles Dozsa at all.

The real Paul Charles Dozsa was a self-described Hungarian nobleman who immigrated to Australia in 1965 and was reportedly an infamous dine-and-dasher, having been been arrested for this behaviour over a 100 times by 1995. However, he reportedly died in 2003 and this left it up to the people who knew him to share his story.

When the infamous Succulent Chinese Meal guy video surfaced, the internet assumed the guy in question was Paul Charles Dozsa given the physical similarities between the pair, but this has been vehmently denied by people claiming to have known the real Paul Charles Dozsa.

So who exactly is the man in the Succulent Chinese Meal guy video and The Chats’ ‘Dine N Dash’ music video? Well apparently he is a bloke named Jack K and it remains up in the air whether his infamous viral video was a legit arrest or a reenactment of some sort. Whatever it was, it is clear that he is aware of his impact on the internet and had made appearances as recently as 2019.

So in conclusion, the real Paul Charles Dozsa is a notorious dine-and-dasher who died in 2003, the man at the centre of the infamous “Succulent Chinese Meal” arrest video almost certainly someone else who is very clearly not dead and is still all about that democracy manifest and succulent chinese meals after all these years, and The Chats went through a lot of effort to breathe new life into a piece of viral video history.
