Supreme’s Oreo Collab Is A 101 In Consumerism Gone Mad

That's the way the cookie crumbles.

There are few brands in the world like Supreme. The streetwear brand has a marketing strategy that most companies only dream of having. They only have a handful of stores around the world, they make their clothes in such limited quantities and celebrities are often caught wearing it. As a result, the demand for Supreme is higher than any other fashion brand in the world.

Because of Supreme’s brand reputation, items that are sold end up going up in value, even if they’ve been used. An example to showcase this would be Supreme’s box-logo hoodie, which often sells out immediately and skyrockets in value to approximately 10x its original price.

While we’re on the subject of celebrities, we spoke to Post Malone’s tattoo artist on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

As a result of this success, Supreme has been diving into other areas of expertise, through collaborations. In recent times, we’ve seen Supreme make everything from chopsticks to toothbrushes to band-aids to post-it notes.

Supreme has recently updated its website, showing the future products that will be coming in their Spring / Summer season. There is yet another unorthodox collaboration and this time it’s with Oero. Yep, as in the cookie. No, you’re not dreaming this.

Supreme is launching a collaboration with Oreos that flex a bright red colour with a white filling. It’s being sold in packs of three in a future Supreme release. The price is currently unknown, but we know for sure, that it’s only going to be expensive and then go up in value once it hits the retail market.

Supreme is also selling their own Zip-Lock bags, BMX bikes and USA Mac Tools workstation as part of the new release.

It should also be noted, that when these collaborations are released, they are no different in quality than the original item they are replicating. The collaboration, more often than not, just involves placing the Supreme logo and colour scheme on an already existing product.

It’s unclear if Supreme is trying to make a comment on consumerism or not, but we can definitely see the issue with the way our current market operates. Supreme is the peak example of buying for “clout” rather than needs and for some reason, people are buying into it. Heaps of people.
