Sharon Osbourne’s Comments On Adele’s Weight Loss Are Beyond Tone-Deaf

The ultimate backhanded compliment.

By now, most of the pop culture obsessed world is aware that yes – Adele looks very different these days. This year, Adele debuted a major weight loss transformation, and while she’s yet to publicly comment on it, it seems that every man and his dog is keen to give their two cents, including Sharon Osbourne. Hear all the details below:

On a recent episode of The Talk, Osbourne and her co-hosts discuss a photo Adele recently posted to Instagram to celebrate her birthday.

Osbourne started by praising Adele, saying she looks “absolutely fantastic.” But, it didn’t take long for the compliment to become backhanded – and quite frankly, tone-deaf.

She went on to say that she doesn’t believe “really big women” are “really happy in their body.” Osbourne reflected on her own weight loss, saying, “I was really, really big and I wasn’t happy.”

“Sure, on the surface…but at night, in bed, alone, I was very unhappy,” she added

It’s totally fair for Sharon Osbourne to speak from personal experience, but to say that all “big women” aren’t actually happy in their appearance is a bit of a generalisation.

Thankfully, she also had some genuinely nice things to say about Adele’s weight loss journey. “I am happy for [Adele] and everybody should be happy for her, because it was her choice,” she said. “She didn’t do it for anybody but herself. And so everybody should be happy for her.”

Sharon Osbourne is right – Adele’s decisions about her own health and wellbeing are incredibly personal, yet that hasn’t stopped people from speculating about her weight loss ‘secrets,’ diet, fitness regimes and even the possibility of cosmetic surgery.

There’s been so much conversation on whether Adele “looks better” before or after her weight loss, but it shouldn’t matter and most importantly, it’s really none of our business.

As one Twitter user put it, “Your weight doesn’t determine your beauty. Your appearance doesn’t determine your beauty. The number on the scale doesn’t make you worthy or unworthy.”
