Shakira And Jennifer Lopez Exposed The Super Bowl's Sexist Double Standards

Didn't recall this much fuss back in 2019 when Maroon 5 performed.

Another year, another Super Bowl halftime show done and dusted. But holy hell, that was a whopper of a show from Shakira and Jennifer Lopez. Both of them combined their culture, women empowerment and some seriously gorgeous costumes into a performance that already ranks up there alongside the likes of Lady Gaga as an all-time-great Super Bowl showcase.

Speaking of Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, the GOAT team break down the 2020 Super Bowl on It’s Been A Big Day For… below:

But unfortunately, there have been a few complaints about Shakira and Jennifer Lopez’s performance that are not only idiotic but also exposed the sexist double standards at play at the Super Bowl.

It seems like the empowering, hip gyrating, skin-revealing and body rolling showcase put on by Shakira and JLo got a bunch of folks clutching at their pearls at its supposed “inappropriateness” and loudly screaming “won’t somebody think of the children!?” to anyone who would listen. Case in point, this Trump-supporting moron:

It’s a lot of noise from a small cluster of pearl-clutchers and one has to wonder where all this fuss was when Maroon 5 performed at the 2019 Super Bowl half-time show and showed off his bare torso.

It seems like these folks are perfectly fine for Adam Levine to expose his nipples to millions but consider it inappropriate when Shakira and JLo rock some sexy but tasteful outfits (which revealed no nipples) while busting out some hip thrusts and energetic dance moves that briefly involves a stripper pole.

That just reeks of sexist double standards, doesn’t it?

If we were to rank all the cooked stuff children see on the internet and social media these days, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez’s Super Bowl performance would be considered tame and wouldn’t even come close to making the list.

Hell, their halftime show wasn’t even the most “unsafe” thing that was shown during the Super Bowl. If the pearl-clutchers really want to do this “family-friendly” argument right, then they’ll have to go after all those alcohol ads as well.

So to those having a whinge over seeing two confident Latina artists putting on a great Super Bowl halftime show that embraces their culture and inclusivity, go and check your misplaced outrage at the door because your hypocrisy and pearls are not wanted here.

And while you’re at it, go apologise to Janet Jackson on your way out.
