Santa Doing Heaps Of Coke Was Probably Not A Good Ugly Sweater Idea

Let it snow.

Australian Christmases are sunny and hot, but we’ve all seen how the holidays are over in the northern hemisphere. Snow, toasting marshmallows, and ugly sweaters with all sorts of festive patterns. Someone probably should have double checked their definition of ‘snow’ though, because we’ve ended up with a sweater that shows Santa doing… well, loads of drugs

The design shows Santa is sitting at the table, with eyes like saucers and… look, I’m just going to show you this monstrosity.

If you were hoping that maybe this was all a big misunderstanding and that the design wasn’t actually meant to be a sweater of Santa doing drugs, I’m sorry to tell you that isn’t the case. All hopes of that were dashed by the product description.

“We all know how snow works. It’s white, powdery and the best snow comes straight from South America. That’s bad news for jolly old St. Nick, who lives far away in the North Pole. That’s why Santa really needs to savor the moment when he gets his hands on some quality, grade A Colombian snow.”

Wrong sort of snow

Real subtle.

The sweater went up for sale on Walmart’s Canadian website, and was pulled down pretty quickly. Walmart apologised, saying that:

“These sweaters, sold by a third-party seller on Walmart.ca (our website in Canada), do not represent Walmart’s values and have no place on our website. We have removed these products from our marketplace. We apologise for any unintended offence this may have caused. These sweaters were not offered on Walmart.com in the U.S.”

A spider going against Walmart’s values

I’ll admit, when Amazon had to pull Auschwitz themed Christmas baubles from their site, I thought that would be all the holiday merch drama out of the way for the year. I never saw a sweater with Santa doing drugs coming, but I should have known better, really.

Maybe we should all just stick to reindeers and pretty lights for our decorations. They seem like much safer choices.
