Rihanna's Baby Plans Are Refreshing AF, And She Ain't Alone

"The only thing that matters is happiness."

Rihanna lives her life under a lot of pressure – not only is she hounded by fans on a daily basis for new music and another album, but at 32 years old, traditional society also expects her to be married with a baby. Turns out RiRi is ready for the latter, but on her own terms.

Speaking of unrealistic expectations placed on women, hear about the controversial ‘Be A Lady They Said’ viral video below:

In a recent interview with Vogue, Rihanna spoke about new music, expanding her beauty and fashion empire, and her desire to have children in the future – with, or without a baby daddy.

When asked where she sees herself in 10 years, Rih said, “Ten years? I’ll be 42! I’ll be ancient…I’ll have kids – three or four of ’em.”

The interviewer then asked Rihanna if she would do it on her own, if she hadn’t met the right person, to which she responded, “Hell, yeah.”

“I feel like society makes me want to feel like, ‘Oh, you got it wrong…’ They diminish you as a mother if there’s not a dad in your kids’ lives. But the only thing that matters is happiness, that’s the only healthy relationship between a parent and a child. That’s the only thing that can raise a child truly, is love.”

Excuse me while I swallow my heart, it’s in my throat.

Rihanna joins a growing list of high profile women choosing to welcome a child into the world independently. 55-year-old actress Sandra Bullock is the adoptive mother of two children, and the same goes for 44-year-old Charlize Theron.

Both January Jones and Mindy Kaling are proud single mothers who have chosen to keep the identity of their children’s fathers a secret.

Then there are the many women who have chosen not to have children at all. Renee Zellweger, Chelsea Handler, Helen Mirren, Oprah Winfrey, Kylie Minogue, Jennifer Aniston and more have spoken publicly about not wanting kids – which is a perfectly valid and personal decision.

Rihanna’s choice to have children with, or without, a man is further proof that the outdated societal expectations that have been placed on women for so long belong in the bin.
