Rest Assured, NASA Is All Over The Broom Challenge

Clean sweep.

If you hopped onto Twitter in the past few days, you probably would have seen this Tweet.

In the short video from user @mikaiylaaaaa, the voiceover made a claim that the day of recording (10.02.20) was “the only day a broom can stand up on its own”. Further, they cited “the gravitational pull” as the reasoning behind it and “NASA” as the source of the information.

Speaking of viral things on the internet, we had a good ol’ yarn about Trump’s packed lunch on this episode of It’s Been A Big Day For…

The video, which racked up over 60k retweets and 270k likes, has since been replicated by many celebrities, including; DJ Khaled, Paula Abdul, Lauren Jauregui and Little Big Town, instigating the start of the viral trend, the Broom Challenge.

Also, there were plenty of celebrities who failed to do the challenge.

However, in a super-duper shocking turn of events, this has turned out to be a hoax. NASA took to Twitter the day after the supposed day of witchcraft, to prove that “physics works on any day of the year.”

Further, in a statement made to Insider, NASA wanted to warn the internet of the dangers of false information.

They said; “This is another social media hoax that exemplifies how quickly pseudoscience and false claims can go viral, while this hoax was harmless, it also shows why it’s important for all of us to do some fact-checking and research — including checking in with @NASA and NASA.gov for real science fun facts — before jumping into the latest viral craze.”

There you have it. Hoax debunked!
